Preface:
The international community has become interdependent due to dynamic relationships made possible with recent increases in technology and communication (internet, email, etc). Within this community, the “global village,” many geographic and cultural barriers have come down. Members of previously unreached people groups can now reach out to the greater world through cell phone technology. A rise or fall in the stock market affects the world over because of internationally connected markets. Such relationships demand that individuals and communities reevaluate their sense of identity based on the fact that every day, directly or indirectly, they interacting with people throughout the globe.
Global Village Education
The Freedom in Creation (FIC) Global Village Education program is designed to facilitate means by which internationals can better understand their relationship to the global village through interdisciplinary, participatory and service learning.
Whereas FIC often engages academic communities with lectures on topics such as global citizenship, water, health, art as therapy, peace building, and community-based approaches to empowerment, FIC has also created an opportunity for students to learn, through the medium of art. A cross-cultural language, art evokes the FIC approach to learning: commonalities before differences. FIC facilitates international art exchanges through which participants can experience personalized relationships with those of other nations. This generates a greater sense of solidarity, imparts unforgotten lessons, and compliments academics. Such lessons, learned at an early age, encourage long-term relationships of mutual understanding, respect, and peace.
