Global Village Education: Testimonies

“It has been several months since our collaboration. However, I am reminded of your visit on a regular basis. I continue to hear students and faculty members share stories about your visit, the work Freedom in Creation is doing in Uganda, and the impact you had on the student body. You truly energized the girls about the cultural richness of Africa and the meaning of service…Your visit and work with the girls surpassed my expectations and was a wonderful way for us to begin the 2009/2010 academic year. I am confident that we will collaborate in the future…”

–W. Joseph Vogel, Director of the Center for Global Citizenship, Hathaway Brown School, Shaker Heights, Ohio

“Freedom in Creation transforms children’s lives. Art is a magical potion.  The creative objective of art reinstates a child’s humanity…a miracle before our eyes.”

–Mark Winter, President of American Land Title Association/ Advocacy Policy Advisor for Millennium Water Alliance

“It was an honor to hear of the humble beginnings of Freedom in Creation and how it is growing– one person at a time…Freedom in Creation profoundly unites – people, places, and time – through the use of the arts. Because art can bring us to the present moment in a unique, and personal way, it has the power to express and heal our human soul.”

–Leila Bandar, Art Professor at Johnson State University, Johnson, Vermont

I have had the distinct honor of collaborating with Freedom in Creation (FIC)  for the purpose of educating and raising awareness about the terrible atrocities committed against people groups in the form of genocide.  Our mutual work has focused in northern Uganda but the principals of  holistic healing and reconciliation are pertinent anywhere in which a child is suffering.   Working together with FIC and Sports Outreach Institute, we have used sport, art, and health education all for the common goal of building meaningful relationships within communities and developing critical programs including: art therapy; sports therapy; support and care of HIV-positive individuals and families; and specialized care of traumatized individuals.  The hopeful outcome is to mitigate some of the suffering of traumatized people, help them in recovery and allow them to fulfill their potential in a holistic way.   Freedom in Creation has made a significant and lasting  impact on me, on our at students at Lynchburg College and on the children and people they serve.
